越南同東南亞嘅Affiliate Marketing
同一個倫敦VC傾完affiliate marketing喺越南嘅情況之後,我意識到呢個performance-based model可以transform東南亞公司scale銷售嘅方式。
呢篇文章寫於2009年,部分內容可能已經有變化。
我啱啱由河內同一個London based VC開完一個interesting嘅meeting返嚟。我哋傾咗好多嘢,但affiliate marketing係其中一個。呢個提醒我好耐冇cover呢個topic,所以有咗今日呢篇文章。為咗嗰啲唔知嘅人,我會先由「Affiliate marketing」嘅概念開始,然後講到越南甚至東南亞affiliate marketing嘅現狀。
1. 乜嘢係affiliate marketing?
明顯任何人都可以google affiliate marketing然後搵到Wiki嘅定義「Affiliate marketing」。如果太多big words太complicated嘅話,呢度有個例子:想像你右邊係Vietnam Airlines或Samsung Vietnam,左邊係end consumers。而家Vietnam Airlines或Samsung或其他公司畀佢哋嘅distribution network(佢哋嘅agents)一定百分比嘅佣金,每次agent幫佢哋賣出一張機票或一部手機。視乎呢個agent嘅規模同月度volume,佣金可以係5%、10%或15%。另一個更簡單嘅例子係你畀sales team佣金,每次佢哋幫你賣出一個產品/服務。每個人都喺做呢啲——OFFLINE。而家將呢個model搬到ONLINE,唔係OFFLINE distribution network/sales team,Vietnam Airlines或Samsung會畀online publisher/website owner一定金額嘅佣金,每次佢哋透過喺自己網站展示廣告而賣出一張機票或一部手機。呢個可以係百分比deal(basket value嘅5-10%)或者每件物品嘅固定金額($10/sales)等...問題係publishers或website owners點樣convince佢哋嘅讀者/訪客喺佢哋嘅網站買機票或手機?係咪代表佢哋嘅網站要enable咗e-commerce?答案係唔需要。Publishers只需要喺佢哋嘅網站展示一個banner、一條text link或類似嘅嘢,客戶瀏覽佢哋嘅網站時可能會click嗰個ad。一旦click咗,佢哋會被redirect去廣告商嘅網站(即呢個case嘅Vietnam Airlines或Samsung),然後可以喺嗰度買。呢個嘅beauty係廣告商唔需要care publishers點樣convince佢哋嘅訪客透過佢哋網站嘅ad買嘢(可能publishers提供產品review?)。當然任何illegal嘅方法都要prevent,喺下面第3部分會討論。
2. Affiliate marketing有啲乜優勢?
2.1 幾乎零風險
由於廣告商只喺有sales發生嘅時候先畀affiliate錢,佢哋唔使擔心喺唔同marketing campaign花錢然後hoping for the best。喺offline世界,相當於公司只喺sales agents賣出產品/服務嘅時候先畀錢,冇basic salary或者100%佣金制度。Vietnam Airlines唔使擔心租office、請人maintain office同做selling嘅fixed cost。
2.2 靈活定義desired action
除咗sales,仲可以有好多其他desired action,好似sales lead、下載software trial嘅客戶、whitepaper等...基本上廣告商只需要decide prospective customers瀏覽佢哋網站時想佢哋take邊啲ONLINE actions;define每個action值幾多錢同佢哋願意畀幾多錢畀extended sales arm去deliver嗰個action。
2.3 Affiliate marketing嘅unlimited budget
由於affiliate marketing基本上好似公司嘅extended sales arm,佢係一個self serving嘅「marketing」或sales initiative。公司唔需要由marketing budget攞錢出嚟fund呢個,佢哋可以保留marketing budget做其他嘢,而affiliate marketing budget應該由sales budget攞出嚟。但由於廣告商只喺有VALIDATED sales/customers嘅時候先畀錢,佢哋實際上只需要考慮cash flow。由於budget應該係unlimited或者budgeting嘅概念根本唔適用,廣告商可以24/7 run呢個program直到佢哋有太多客人service唔切。
2.4 免費曝光
點解免費曝光?因為當publishers/website owners喺佢哋嘅網站run某個產品嘅banner ad,如果客戶冇click個ad同買嘢,至少佢哋見到個ad,即係增加咗廣告商嘅brand awareness。如果佢哋click咗個ad,到咗廣告商網站但冇買任何嘢,又係免費曝光,零成本增加brand awareness。
3. 越南或東南亞嘅Affiliate marketing
到呢度有啲人可能會問「ok Chandler,聽落唔錯,其實太好喇。點解我嘅行業冇人做?」或者「以我嘅經驗,如果too good to be true,通常就係」。Well事實係Affiliate marketing喺東南亞整體唔算大,喺越南基本上冇。點解?
3.1 缺乏clearly defined Online actions
呢個原因排第一因為如果一間公司唔喺網上賣嘢、一間銀行冇Online application form、或者任何其他desired online action都冇,咁佢哋做唔到affiliate marketing。喺某啲國家,特別係越南,offline仍然係main sales channel,因為credit card採用率低同e-commerce仲喺infancy。對好多公司嚟講,網站只係佢哋展示資訊嘅地方。如果客戶想買或者transact,佢哋要親自去分行。
3.2 缺乏理解/red tape
呢個喺每一種新嘅做法、每一個行業都會發生,唔奇怪。整個online marketing concept喺呢個地區仲相對新,所以人哋reluctant。
3.3 缺乏trust、transparency同security
要Affiliate marketing work,廣告商嘅網站同publisher嘅網站都需要被track。點解?呢個係確保validated sales被attribute返去correct publisher。如果同一個consumer瀏覽多個網站、click多個同一產品嘅ads但只買一次,邊個publisher得到credit/嗰單sales?通常係「last click win」即最後一個publisher嘅網站喺客戶make sales之前得到佣金。但仲有另一個concern...由於廣告商只畀validated sales/conversions嘅錢,會有一定百分比嘅sales/conversions係invalid/duplicate。呢啲invalid sales/conversions會被ignore,publisher會損失收入。廣告商可唔可以被信任去police佢哋自己嘅work?有乜framework確保佢哋唔會cheat,特別係如果publishers用自己嘅錢大力推廣廣告商嘅產品??另外tracking即係喺廣告商網站放一段code去收集sales嘅資訊?咁security同confidential information好似customer name呢?Security risk係Affiliate marketing喺東南亞或越南一個好大嘅hurdle。廣告商可能唔擔心customer name等confidential information被leak,但佢哋擔心自己嘅sales performance、網站嘅integrity被compromise。
3.4 消費者行為
呢個喺新加坡唔係問題但喺越南就係一件大事。越南人傾向OFFLINE買嘢/transact。佢哋仲冇online購物或者online申請credit card/loans嘅習慣。佢哋擔心security、credit card/個人資料被盜。另外冇幾多公司有足夠嘅mechanism、網站上有足夠嘅資訊/help去令客戶transact。消費者行為會lead到一樣嘢:volume不足。無論一個marketing/sales channel有幾好,公司嘅人員投入嘅effort需要被sales volume driven、online applications driven justify。因為現實中要maintain一個affiliate marketing program,公司需要involve IT team支持setup、一個dedicated person keep track同validate sales/conversions、reporting、budgeting等...公司越大,佢哋要get things moving嘅process就越complicated。而所有呢啲hard work係為咗extra $200嘅sales/月或者5個credit card applications/月。明顯我呢度有啲exaggeration但你get the picture。潛在volume需要there to justify廣告商嗰邊嘅effort。「If something is not worth doing, it's not worth doing right!」
4. 接下來?
我唔打算用一篇blog post就in-depth cover affiliate marketing。我希望所有basics都roughly covered到。我個人嘅opinion / hope係affiliate marketing會stay同喺未來2-4年rapid grow。我唔覺得越南12個月內會有meaningful movements。新加坡就唔同,可能grow得快好多,因為infrastructure喺度——由consumers嘅preference到online transaction到technology、trust factor等...Affiliate marketing可能會大嘅行業包括:finance(同finance相關嘅所有嘢)、travel、consumer electronics、fashion、education等...一如既往,如果你有任何嘢想share/comment,歡迎email我chandlerblog@gmail.com 祝好夜!Chandler
